What is EmploymentWorks Online?

EmploymentWorks Online is an employment readiness program designed for Autistic people and individuals with disabilities who prefer flexible, self-paced learning. Simulated job sampling for a variety of roles is included.

During the program, participants will:

  • Identify their employment goals
  • Develop and practice work related skills
  • Build confidence to be successful in a workplace

Who is eligible to participate?

  • People who self-identify as Autistic, neurodivergent, or have a disability
  • People that are motivated to get a job
  • People who would like to learn how to prepare for and find employment
  • People that need support to keep employment
  • People with the legal right to work in Canada. For example, Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and people with refugee status.

*Disability means a condition that limits your ability to do daily activities.

What is the program format?

EmploymentWorks Online includes 12 program modules, which are arranged into four key themes:

  • Preparing for work
  • Getting work
  • Keeping work
  • Thriving at work

Participants can complete the program in as little as 13 hours, or over the course of 6-months. The pacing of course completion depends on the learners’ preferences.

The following supports are available for all participants:

  • On-demand access to program staff to guide and support learners
  • Optional one-on-one support to improve job-seeking skills
  • Optional group-based discussions on program content and job-related soft skills

Program supports available include:

  • Access to program staff for guidance and support.
  • 1:1 help to develop and improve job-seeking skills.
  • Opportunities to join group-based discussions on program topics.
  • Funded certification training to support employment (e.g. First Aid, Food Safety, WHMIS).
  • Connecting with employment agencies or supported employment providers.
  • Connecting to a paid work experience.
  • Funded on-the-job supports (e.g. equipment, job coaching, wage support for employers).

EmploymentWorks Online is accessible to all Canadians regardless of their location. It is available in both English and French, with program staff who can provide live support in either language.

If you self-identify as an Autistic person, neurodivergent, or as an individual with a disability and prefer learning on your own time and own pace, EmploymentWorks Online may be just right for you.

You will learn how to:

  • Recognize your skills and strengths
  • Identify areas for development
  • Discover your job interests
  • Improve your job seeking skills
  • Prepare a resume and develop effective interview skills
  • Build confidence to be successful in a workplace

EmploymentWorks Online includes 12 program modules that are organized in 1-week blocks over four weeks, however it can be completed in less or more time depending on your schedule and preferred pace.

No experience is necessary. All that is required is a strong motivation to develop the skills necessary to prepare for, find and keep a job.

There are no fees to participate in the EmploymentWorks Online program.
